We first heard about Sir Mittens when a wonderful lady called Emma from Kenilworth cats in need community Facebook group contacted us about a town cat known as ‘cemetary cat’ She wrote…

He is the sweetest, friendliest boy and comforts mourners at the cemetery regularly. He has some deformities that the vet thinks are congenital. He has a very wonky tail that looks like the end is missing and a curved back, which you can feel when you stroke him, and his dew claw and pad are twisted on his front paw. The vet told me that he has some arthritis in his back leg, which is why he was struggling to walk, but he’s recovered well after an injection of pain meds.

His name is ‘Sir Mittens’ and he is wonderful. He was owned by a couple, years ago but he would never go back home and was constantly off visiting various houses, being fussed and fed and so he ended up being a stray. In 2019, he was badly attacked by a dog and was taken into the vets to be treated. He had abscesses that needed draining and was in a state. He was also covered in fleas. He recovered well and was given a home by one of the people whom he used to visit. I didn’t know any of this about him until recently. He ended up being taken to the vets a couple of weeks ago as he was struggling to walk, and the people who took him posted his picture on the town Facebook group. This is when I got involved as I wanted to check that he was actually living somewhere and being cared for. It took me so much detective work to track down where he was supposed to be living and get in touch with them. It turns out that he only lived with them for a short while, and they rarely see him now. I’ve set up a little team that keeps an eye on him, makes sure he is fed, and to keep an eye on his health until I can figure out what to do with him. He’s about 14 now.

Emma was quite rightly concerned that although he has lots of people looking out for him and numerous feeders, he had no home, no guaranteed soft bed to call his own.

We realise he will be greatly missed by everyone he met on his daily trips around Kenilworth, but as a fourteeen year old fella who has spent at least the last ten years as a gentleman of the road, he desperately needed a place to call his own, where he can have a monitored diet, supplements and pain relief for his arthritis when necessary and a warm , safe bed every night.

We would like to thank Emma and the wonderful team of ladies who have been looking out for him and also one of our wonderful supporters who has set up a regular subscription for his arthritis support meds. You are all stars.
